Connect your domain name to Squarespace
If you are using the Skystra nameservers on your domain name and want to connect your domain name to Squarespace, use the steps below.
1. Log in to your Squarespace user portal
2. Click Use a Domain I Own
3. Enter the full domain name you’re connecting in the Enter Domain field, then click the arrow
4. Click Connect Domain
5. Select Other
6. Click Connect Domain
7. In the message that appears, click Continue
8. After you click connect, the DNS Settings panel will appear. This panel shows the records you need to enter in your Skystra hosting control panel to connect your domain to your Squarespace site. Keep this panel open and open a new browser window or tab.
9. In your new browser window, log in to your Skystra hosting control panel
10. If you have multiple domain names, click on your domain name next to the Domain: field to select the one you’d like to manage from the dropdown
11. Click on the DNS Zones button
12. Click the Add Record button
13. In the Add Record popup, complete the fields:
- Select CNAME from the Record Type dropdown
- In the Name field, paste the unique code from under Host on the first line from your Squarespace panel
- Leave the TTL as default (no change required)
- In the Value field, delete the existing value and paste in: verify.squarespace.com.
14. Click the Add button
15. Back on the main DNS page, locate the A record for the www. entry. Tick the box to its left.
16. Click the Delete button
17. Click the Confirm button on the Delete DNS record popup
18. Back on the main DNS page, click the Add Record button
19. On the Add Record popup:
- Select CNAME from the Record Type dropdown
- In the Name field, type in: www
- Leave the TTL as default (no change required)
- In the Value field, delete the existing value and paste in: ext-cust.squarespace.com.
20. Click the Add button
21. Back on the main DNS page, you will see a series of A records listed (look for A under the Type column, these are A records). Locate your domain name’s main A record entry, which is the A record for the full domain name.
22. Click on the pencil icon to the right-hand side of the main A record to enable editing
23. In the Edit Record popup, delete the existing IP address in the Value field and paste the Squarespace IP address:
198.185.159.144
24. Nothing else requires modification on this popup, only the IP address. Click the Save button.
25. Back on the main DNS page, click the Add Record button
26. On the Add Record popup:
- Leave A record selected from the Record Type dropdown
- In the Name field, type in: @
- Leave the TTL as default (no change required)
- In the Value field, put in the IP address: 198.185.159.145
27. Click the Add button
28. Back on the main DNS page, click the Add Record button
29. On the Add Record popup:
- Leave A record selected from the Record Type dropdown
- In the Name field, type in: @
- Leave the TTL as default (no change required)
- In the Value field, put in the IP address: 198.49.23.144
30. Click the Add button
31. Back on the main DNS page, click the Add Record button
32. On the Add Record popup:
- Leave A record selected from the Record Type dropdown
- In the Name field, type in: @
- Leave the TTL as default (no change required)
- In the Value field, put in the IP address: 198.49.23.145
33. Click the Add button
34. Your domain name is now connected to Squarespace DNS and you will have to wait for Squarespace to complete the connection. In your Squarespace customer portal, you can monitor the progress in the Connection in progress section.
35. Once the connection is complete, you receive a connected message in your Squarespace customer portal.
Once DNS are updated, it can take anywhere from a few hours to 24h for the Squarespace DNS to take effect on your domain across the internet. In rare instances, this can take up to 72 hours. The progress can be monitored from your Squarespace account.
