If you’re not super comfortable with using FTP, you can use your File Manager to upload files manually!

File Manager

Login to your cPanel control panel. Click here for instructions on how to get to cPanel.

Once in cPanel control panel, click the File Manager under the Files section:

The File Manager will then open as a new tab in your browser. For your files to be accessible via the web, you need to upload them to the public_html directory. Click on the public_html link from the left-hand menu  to load the directory:

Uploading Files

Now all you need to do is click the Upload button in the top menu bar to upload your file:

Click the Select File button, choose the file on your computer (voucher.pdf in our example) and click the Open button to upload it.

The File Manager will let you know once the upload completes, and you can click on the Go Back link to go back to the main screen:

You’ll now see the uploaded file in your public_html directory:

Accessing Links

To access the file link, you’d use the following structure for the URL:

https://yourdomain.com/filename.pdf

In our example, the file link would be:

https://yourdomain.com/voucher.pdf

Please make sure to avoid using spaces in your file names, and if you have multiple words – we recommend using dashes or underscores to prevent any potential problems.

For example:

my-special-file.pdf

fiscal_report_for_2020.xls

Here are a couple of examples on how to access files uploaded to different folders on your hosting account from the File Manager:

/home/username/public_html/file.pdf -> https://yourdomain.com/file.pdf

/home/username/public_html/wordpress/file.pdf -> https://yourdomain.com/wordpress/file.pdf

/home/username/file.pdf -> not accessible via the web
