If you need to redirect your domain, you can do so from your control panel.

Control Panel

Click here for instructions on how to get to cPanel.

Once in cPanel, click Redirects under the Domains section:

Redirect Page

Here’s how the redirect page looks like:

As you can see, there are several sections to configure, but don’t worry – it’s not complicated.

The first thing we need to choose is the type of redirect.

301 vs 302 Redirects

There are two types available:

301 – Permanent

302 – Temporary

301

301 is a permanent redirect, which means that the original page has permanently moved elsewhere. You want search engines and user agents coming to the page to update the URL in their database or their bookmarks. 301 redirect is the most common redirect most people use.

302

302 is a temporary redirect, and as such, you don’t want search engines to associate any link popularity with it or your visitors to update their bookmarks. Since the redirect is temporary, it will go away at some point.

Configure Redirect

Pick the type of redirect you’d like to configure:

Next, we need to choose the domain name we want to redirect from the drop-down menu:

Use the text field under the drop-down menu and enter the folder or file name if you want to redirect a single page or directory:

In the Redirects to field, fill in the full URL of the page our domain will be redirected to.

Make sure to include the protocol as well (https://, for example).

Next, choose if you want to redirect with www. or not:

Only redirect with www.: The redirect will run only if the visitor is using www. in the URL.

Redirect with or without www.: The redirect will run with and without the www. prefix in the URL.

Do Not Redirect www.: The redirect will not run if the visitor is using www. in the URL.

In general, you want to redirect both www and non-www variants to the new URL.

Lastly, choose if you want to enable the Wild Card redirect option. This option will redirect all existing files in the current directory to the same files in the new directory.

In our example, we’re redirecting https://skystraconnect.com to https://skystra.com:

  • With the Wild Card redirect: https://skystraconnect.com/folder will redirect to https://skystra.com/folder
  • Without the Wild Card redirect: https://skystraconnect.com/folder will redirect to https://skystra.com

Once ready, click the Add button to save your changes and add a new redirect.

Remove Redirects

If you want to remove an existing redirect, click the Delete button next to it under the Current Redirects section:
