Get Domain Transfer Code From NameCheap

Before we start, it is important to understand that domain transfer can take between five to seven days to complete. The speed will depend on the domain extension and the response time from your current and new domain registrar.

Let’s go through the process:

Step 1: Unlock your Domain

Log in to your NameCheap account. Go to the dashboard, find your domain in the “Domain List”, and click “Manage”.

In the “Domain” tab, you’ll find the “Sharing & Transfer” tab – click it.

Scroll down to the Transfer Out section and find the Domain Lock option. Make sure the status is “Off”. If not, toggle the button to switch it off.

Step 2: Get the EPP/Auth Code

Every domain has an EPP code or Transfer Authorization Code, which is needed to authorize the domain transfer. On that same page, locate Auth Code option on the right:

Fill in the required information, and click the Send Code button to receive Auth Code to your verified email address.

Step 3: Disable WHOIS Guard

Go back to the “Domain” tab, and find the ‘WitheldforPrivacy’ option. If it is enabled, disable it. It is important to disable WHOIS Guard, or else the domain name transfer will not work.

Step 4: Initiate Transfer on Your New Registrar’s Side

Now log into your customer portal. Click on “Domains” and then “Transfer in a Domain” and type in your domain name to the transfer field. Click Add To Cart.

Enter the EPP code, and enable ID protection (domain privacy) if you’d like.

Click Checkout to start the transfer.

Step 5: Confirm the Transfer

After you initiate the transfer, you will receive a confirmation email.

Step 6: Approve the Transfer

Back in your NameCheap account, you will receive a notification about the transfer. You can approve the transfer immediately, which is recommended to speed up the process.
